Adaptogen Berry Smoothie

IMG_7918.jpg

Its not secret that adaptogens don’t taste great. You’d be hard pushed to find someone that enough a straight up mushroom tea with nothing to disguise the flavour. But there is a great hack for incorporating these foods into your diet and that is, disguising them in a smoothie!

Starting with a smoothie base that has some great deep flavours for example berries, banana, nut butter, coconut milk, will help mask all the flavours of whatever adaptogen powder or tincture you choose to put in, without destroying the taste of your smoothie! Bonus!

Adaptogens are plants or herbs that can help you balance hormones, your anxiety and stress levels, by supporting your adrenals by helping curb adrenal fatigue. Our current lifestyles generally do not promote a stress free life, and our bodies are often are subject to chronic stress and over stimulation, so introducing adaptogens can be a great way to support getting our bodies back into balance.

So whatever your adaptogen of choice, whether is be ashwaganda, maca, reishi, turkey tail, hiding in a smoothie is a super easy way.

For this one I added some ashwaganda for its mood balancing benefits and some turkey tail for immunity. Ashwaganda is an ayurveda herb that is know to boost brain function, lower blood sugar and cortisol levels, and help fight symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen raspberries

  • 1 frozen avocado

  • 1/2 frozen courgette

  • 2/3 cup coconut water

  • 1/2 tsp ashwagandha powder

  • 1/2 tsp turkey tail

  • 1 tbsp flax seeds

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

Method

Whizz it all up!

Serve with your topping of choice. I went for almond butter, homemade granola, pumpkin seeds and frozen berries.

Enjoy xx
